I have a Savage like this in the FCNS 111 also and they both shoot very well. Have used both for several years now without any complains except the clip on this model is very hard clicking in and out if not center properly. The FCNS 111 model is the smoothes mag. made by Savage but they have now stopped making it. Wish they stay with someyhing that works good instead of cutting quality.

It's a good gun but it's no weather warrior.

Although it shares the same number as the 116 weather warrior (ww) I can assure you they are very different in some key areas.
The finish on the Hunter is a matte sandblasted finish similar to the axis. It is not shinny or smooth like the ww.
The stock feels solid and is firm on the front end. Because it doesn't have the accu-stock like the ww the magazine design is also different. It is very similar to the axis and the magazines are interchangeable. (I own an axis in .270) Personally I'm ok with the magazine area, I don't foresee any issue with it breaking during normal use.
I purchased this gun in .30-06 spring of 2013. When it arrived it had staining, dark discoloration down the under side of the barrel as if a droplet of water had ran down the underside of the barrel towards the stock approximately 6 inches from the tip. I've cleaned it but I can still notice the slight discoloration. Even though it's stainless, because of the matte finish I am worried about scrubbing that area too much in case that area begins to look more polished than the rest of the gun.
The scope, so far has been working good. I've had no issues sighting it in. I've shot 40 rds through it and it's still holding zero just fine.
The accu-trigger came set at 3lbs. It's easy to set lower but I like how it is right now.
Over all impression is I am satisfied. The recoil pad is adequate, the stock is solid, scope keeps zero, action is smooth, trigger feels great and I like the look of this gun.
If you are considering a savage stainless steel rifle package and are looking at the axis, I highly recommend spending a little more and getting this one. You just get so more more for the money.

I bought this gun a year ago in the .338 win mag and haven't had a problem with the gun itself. Only problem I had was with the scope, could not get it to keep zero. Bought a new scope and have had no issues since.

Have to say savage is a great gun bought this one in the 270 wow awesome to shoot and it's built durable as well, only complaint is the clip otherwise a comfortable gun to shoot.

I recently purchased the 116 Trophy Hunter XP in 300 Win Mag, having previously owned a Savage 110 of the same caliber and absolutley loving it, I did not hesitate to order this rifle. However, things are quite different between the two rifles. The way the magazine attaches to the rifle is about as cheap as it gets, a little plastic tab on the magazine that WILL eventually break off. The magazine its self is cheaply made and they don't exactly give away replacements. The rifle was anything but accurate out of the box, it was 15 inches low and 13 inches right at 50 yards, they must have had Mr Magoo boresighting that day. I didn't have time to sight the rifle in before hunting and had to do it in the field under less than ideal conditions, I went through a full box of ammunition just getting it close enough to hunt with. The stock and the recoil pad just have a feeling and look of cheap about them, it appears that quality at Savage Arms has gone down hill. This rifle was a couple hundred more than the model 110 I had and the 110 was a better rifle. I know it's not a top end rifle, but it should be a little better quality for the money. I said I would not recommend this item and that is only because of the magazine issue, I feel that strongly about it.
